LIVING PLAZA BANJARMASIN

Living Plaza Banjarmasin is a fresh retail oasis designed to embody the warmth and innovation of Kawan Lama Group’s identity, but with a tailored approach that understands its context. As Banjarmasin is a secondary city, we were mindful not to overwhelm or intimidate. Instead, we created a design that feels welcoming, familiar, and accessible, while still bringing a sense of excitement and newness to the local landscape.

The design language is intentionally a bit more low-key, aimed at making everyone—from seasoned city dwellers to newcomers—feel comfortable as they explore. The rich wood laminate finishes and decorative columns exude warmth and approachability, grounding the space in a way that resonates with the city's local charm. These elements soften the mall's modern retail environment, making it inviting rather than imposing.

The ceiling features vibrant textures and patterns, but done in moderation to create a sense of discovery without overwhelming the senses. The goal was to bring an understated sophistication—something new to the city but not alienating. We paired this with thoughtful greenery, strategically placed to add an organic touch that breathes life into the mall. The lighting strikes a delicate balance: warm and welcoming, yet bright enough to evoke energy and engagement.

Overall, we aimed to create a sense of inclusivity while still pushing the envelope, ensuring Living Plaza becomes a beloved part of Banjarmasin’s evolving urban experience. The core idea remains: to "Attract People and Engage People," but in a way that feels authentic to its setting.
